Thunder load up on draft picks with deadline deals

The Langley Thunder loaded up on draft capital at the BC Junior A Lacrosse League trade deadline.

The Thunder acquired five first round draft picks, a second-round pick, a third-round pick and the Junior A and Tier 1 playing rights of Max Larsen. Langley also receives both cash and future considerations.

Altogether, Langley made trades with four teams ahead of the trade deadline, which was 11:59 p.m. on June 30.

The biggest of those deals was sending captain Cody Malawsky to the Coquitlam Adanacs in exchange for first round picks in 2025, 2026 and 2028 and a second-round pick in 2025. The first round picks in 2025 and 2026 originally belonged to the Delta Islanders. Malawsky’s Junior A playing rights revert to Langley following the Minto Cup. The Thunder are also sending a fourth round pick in 2025 and a third round pick in 2026 to Coquitlam as part of the trade.

The Thunder also acquired a first-round pick in the 2028 Draft from the Burnaby Lakers, sending Ben Gagnon and Jaiden Terry the other way. Gagnon’s rights are transferred back to Langley at the end of the Minto Cup.

Langley’s also picked up another 2028 first round pick from the Port Coquitlam Saints in exchange for Jack Margetson, Ethan Quinn and Calum Munro.

Terry, Margetson, Quinn and Munro are all in their final seasons of junior eligibility.

The Thunder’s fourth and final trade of the evening saw them send Chase Schiavon to the Nanaimo Timbermen with Langley receiving a third round pick in 2025 and future considerations.

Langley also traded two players well ahead of the deadline, sending Brayden Wandler and Graysen Balatti to Burnaby in separate deals, earning the team a 2026 first round pick, Ryan Sheldrake and future considerations.
