Thunder Drop Third Straight to Bellies
Township of Langley, BC (Tuesday, May 26, 2015) – A six point night from Bryce Brochu was not enough as the Langley Junior Thunder lost their third straight game, falling 12-8 to the New Westminster Junior ‘A’ Salmonbellies on Tuesday night at the Langley Events Centre.
The Thunder opened the scoring just 54 seconds in as Trevor Chernoff wired a shot past Salmonbellies goaltender Graham Husick to go up 1-0. New Westsminster stormed back with five unanswered goals and led 5-1 early in the second period. Langley would get one back in the middle frame thanks to Nathan Koznevnikov, cutting the deficit to 5-2. The visitors would add three more before the end of the period and went into the intermission with an 8-3 lead. Despite their best effort to mount a comeback, it was a little too late for the Thunder as they dropped their record to 2 win, 6 losses and 1 tie and sit in sixth place in the BCJALL standings.
Connor Robinson led all scorers with seven points (1g ,6a) for New Westminster and Brandon Clelland had 4 points (2g, 2a) for the visitors.
Goaltender Jake Sundar did his best to keep the home team alive stopping 53 shots as New Westminster outshot Langley 65-37. A bright spot for the Thunder continues to be James Rahe. The forward netted five points (1g, 4a) and now has 26 points (11g, 15a) in just seven games this season.
Langley is back in action this weekend as they try and snap the losing streak against the high powered Delta Islanders on Saturday night. Face-off is at 7:30PM at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
