Thunder drop season opener in Victoria
After scoring three times in the first dozen minutes, the Langley Thunder were held to just three goals for the remaining 48 minutes, resulting in a 10-6 loss.
The Thunder were in Victoria on Saturday afternoon to face the Shamrocks at the Q Centre to open the BC Junior A Lacrosse League season.
After that early deficit, the Shamrocks closed the opening period with a 4-3 lead and never trailed again.
Six Langley players scored a goal apiece with Jonathan Grywacheski’s one goal and two helpers leading the Thunder. Austin Vanichuk, Ben Gagnon and Calum Munro each had a goal and one assist with Mac Timms and Riley MacDonald potting a goal apiece. Brayden Longacre and Jack Dulong also set up a pair of goals and Jack Margetson was great on face-offs, winning 14 of 19.
In goal, Brayden Wandler stopped 39 of 49 shots (.796) as the Thunder were outshot 49-48. Grayson Manning finished with 42 saves for the Shamrocks while Greyson Thompson led the offence with a goal and three assists. Phillip Busenuis scored twice as well.
The Thunder are back in action on May 19 as they host the Nanaimo Timbermen in matinee action (3:30pm) at Langley Events Centre.
