Thunder come up short in New Westminster

The New Westminster Salmonbellies scored twice in the final four minutes, breaking a tie game to edge the Langley Thunder 10-9.
The teams were playing in BC Junior A Lacrosse League action at New Westminster’s Queen’s Park Arena on Tuesday night with the Salmonbellies improving to 3-1 while Langley fell to 0-3,
Austin Vanichuk led Langley with a goal and four helpers while Nathaniel Leroux finished with four assists. Sam Wallace (2-1) and Cody Todd both scored twice in the defeat while Kade Hoogstraten and Mac Timms both finishing with a goal and a pair of assists. Hudson Zazelenchuk and Temeke7 Gottfriedsen rounded things out with a goal apiece.
Owen Byers made 39 saves on 49 shots in the Langley goal.
For the ‘Bellies, Aidan McDonald had a pair of goals to go with three assists while Linkin Twamley and Brandon Kirby both scored twice. Boris Maksimenko came on in relief to earn the win with 25 saves on 29 shots.
The Thunder host the Burnaby Lakers on Thursday (May 29, 7:00pm) at Langley Events Centre in the team’s 2025 home debut.
