Third-period rally as Thunder edge Lakers

A pair of goals from both Cody Todd and Austin Vanichuk helped the Langley Thunder secure a second straight victory.

The Thunder rallied for an 8-7 win over the host Burnaby Lakers on Wednesday night at Bill Copeland Arena, improving to 2-0 in BC Junior A Lacrosse League action.

Trailing 7-5 late in the second period, Todd cut the deficit to one just before intermission before tying the game with a power-play marker six minutes into the final frame, setting the stage for Brayden Longacre’s game-winning goal midway through the period.

Vanichuk added an assist for a three-point night, while Mason Eastgate and Longacre each finished with a goal and an assist. Graysen Balatti and Zekie Terry scored the other Langley goals. Marcus Khan made 52 saves as the Thunder were outshot 59-40.

Daniel Battistin led the Lakers with a goal and four assists, while Connor Welch and Oscar Lucas each scored twice. Deklan Morrison stopped 32 shots for Burnaby.

Up next, the Thunder hit the road again on May 23 for a 2:30 p.m. matchup in Nanaimo against the Timbermen. Langley’s home opener is set for May 28 when they host the Coquitlam Adanacs at Langley Events Centre. Opening faceoff is 7:30 p.m.
