Shamrocks silence Jr. Thunder
A five-goal deficit was too much to overcome for the Langley Junior Thunder.
After taking an early 2-1 lead, the Thunder surrendered six straight goals, going scoreless for a 20-minute stretch spanning the first and second periods, in what turned out to be a 10-8 loss to the Victoria Junior Shamrocks. The BC Junior A Lacrosse League game was played on Saturday afternoon at Victoria’s Q Centre.
Ryan Martel (two goals, three assists) and Dylan Mcintosh (two goals, one assist) paced the Thunder attack with a pair of goals apiece. Nathaniel Kozevnikov (one goal, two assists), Ty Ewen (one goal, one assist), Tesi Oakes (one goal, one assist) and Nathan McKeigan (one goal) rounded out the scoring.
Torin Vanrheenen made 42 saves for Langley as the Thunder were outshot 52-44.
The victory – one of two over the weekend for Victoria – helped the Shamrocks leapfrog Langley in the standings, going from fifth to third place at 7-4-1. The Thunder sit fifth at 6-5 heading into their next game, June 13 when they travel to Burnaby to face the Junior Lakers.
