Second-period struggles silence Thunder in game three

The Langley Thunder are down 2-1 in the best-of-seven BC Junior A Lacrosse League Championship series after a 14-9 loss on Saturday afternoon to the Victoria Shamrocks at the Q Centre in Victoria.

Up 3-2 after 20 minutes, the Thunder surrendered nine second-period goals and could not recover.

Kyle Brunsch led Langley with a hat trick and five points while Cody Malawsky had a goal and three helpers. Noah Armitage (two goals, one assist) and Stuart Phillips (three assists) each had three-point games and Dew Kask, Benjamin Stewart and Matt Abbott had a goal apiece.

Brayden Wandler made 43 saves for the Thunder as his team was outshot 57-40 with Adam Bland making 31 saves for the Shamrocks.

Kyle Pepper led the Victoria offence with a four-goal game and one assist while Denton MacDonald had a goal and five assists. Michael Sandberg and Patrick Dodds both scored twice as well.

Game four of the series goes Sunday (August 7) at Langley Events Centre with a 4:00pm start time.
