It was a dream start but a nightmare finish for the Langley Thunder.

The Junior A lacrosse team scored the only three goals of the opening period of game one of their best-of-three BC Junior A Lacrosse League playoff series against the Port Coquitlam Saints on Tuesday (August 3). And even when the teams went to the locker room for second intermission with the score knotted at seven, Langley was still in the game. But the Saints would score seven times over that final frame while the Thunder managed four goals for a 14-11 Port Coquitlam victory.

The game was played at the Poco Rec Centre.

Final shots on goal were lopsided with Port Coquitlam firing 58 shots on goal compared to Langley’s 33.

The trio of Kyle Brunsch, Cody Malawsky and Kaden Doughty did the bulk of the damage for the Thunder, scoring eight of the team’s 11 goals and finishing with a combined 19 points. Of that, Brunsch had four goals and nine points while Malawsky (one goal, four assists) and Doughty (three goals, two assists) had five points apiece.

Trevayne Hunter (three assists) and Declan Fitzpatrick (one goal, two assists) both had three-point game while Jack Margetson and Ethan Quinn finished with a pair of assists apiece. Jonathan Grywacheski and Ryan Jensen had the other Langley goals.

Brayden Wandler allowed six goals on 38 shots before giving way to Troy Cuzzetto, who surrendered seven goals on 19 shots in the Thunder net.

Game two sees the series shift to Langley Events Centre with the teams set to meet on Thursday (August 5) with a 7:30 p.m. start time. The game is available to stream for free at www.tfsetv.ca.
