The British Columbia Junior A Lacrosse League has announced that Langley Thunder's Ryan Martel is this year's Marcolis Gilson Award winner as the Rookie of the Year.

Not only did Martel lead all rookies in scoring but he also was atop of the Thunder's leaderboard with 43 goals, 54 assists and 97 points in 20 games, which was second best in the entirety of the BCJALL.

"I am very excited to receive this award and to be this successful at this level," said Ryan Martel. "I want to help the Thunder organization be as successful as it can be, but my ultimate goal is to fulfill my lifelong dream of playing in the National Lacrosse League."

Martel averaged just under 5 points per game, had a shooting percent of .768, scored 11 power play goals, 5 shorthanded goals and 27 even strength goals.

"Our team is full of talented players but Ryan is a special talent," said Thunder Head Coach Shaun Springett. "He is far and away one of the most skilled players I have ever coached. If he works hard, I think he has one of the opportunity to be one of the best. This year was his first so I expect him to turn into one of the most dominant junior players of his age bracket. The future is very bright for Langley."

In addition to the Rookie of the Year Martel was also named to the BCJALL First Team All-Star.
