League honours for Vanichuk, Terry
Austin Vanichuk and Jaiden Terry were among the award winners announced by the BC Junior A Lacrosse League.
The league announced the award recipients on August 16, ahead of the Minto Cup championships being held in Coquitlam from August 17-24.
Vanichuk was the recipient of the Marcolis Gilson Award as Rookie of the Year following a season in which he led Langley in assists (32) and points (47) and was second in goals (15). He also finished in the top 20 in league scoring and was also named to the BCJALL All-Rookie Team. At the end of the Thunder’s season, Vanichuk was also named the team’s Most Valuable Player, Top Offensive Player and Top Rookie.
“Winning this award is a testament to both the skill and determination of Austin and shows the potential he has in this game,” said Ryan Williams, the Thunder’s assistant general manager.
Terry was presented the Keith McEachren Trophy as the league’s Most Sportsmanlike Player. It is the second straight year Terry has earned the honour.
“Capturing this award for a second straight season truly shows the character that Jaiden displays every time he steps on to the floor,” Williams said.
Terry, a left-handed defender, was traded to the Burnaby Lakers at the BCJALL trade deadline.
