The struggles continue for the Langley Thunder.
Hoping to build off a solid performance in a 9-7 loss the night before in Burnaby, the Thunder fell 14-4 to the visiting Coquitlam Adanacs on Thursday night at Langley Events, dropping the team to 0-6 in BC Junior A Lacrosse League action.
And for much of the first period, Langley hung tough against the Adanacs trailing 2-1 with under four minutes to go before intermission. But two Coquitlam goals in 27 seconds – the second time that happened in the period – gave the visitors a 4-1 advantage and they never looked back.
Final shots on goal were 65-39 for the Adanacs with Brayden Wandler posting an .827 save percentage with 43 saves on 52 shots. Nathaniel Leroux (1-2) and Austin Vanichuk (1-1) had multi-point games up front for the Thunder with Calum Munro and Mac Timms scoring once each.
Jaxon Dillon (3-1) led the Adanacs with a hat trick while David Charney and Iorens McComber each had five-point games.
Against the Lakers the night before at Burnaby’s Bill Copeland Arena, the Thunder outshot the Lakers 61-44 but came up on the short end of a 9-7 score. After scoring two of the first three goals, Langley allowed six straight and could not get back on even terms the rest of the way.
Wandler again posted a stellar save percentage (.868) as he made 33 saves on 38 shots, entering the game with his team down 4-2. Munro (2-1) and Vanichuk (1-3) led the offence with multi-point games while Brayden Longacre, Noah Buchan, Jack Margetson and Nathan Roseborsky scoring once each. Leroux and Brayden Bushnoe both chipped in with a pair of assists.
The Thunder are back in action on Sunday (June 2) as they host the Victoria Shamrocks at Langley Events Centre. Game time is 5:00pm.
